Miss Harley's Preschool Happenings

  Monday November 25th We started our day by making Pilgrim hats to wear for our Thanksgiving Day Parade.  After all of the students had completed their hats, we set off to parade through the big school. The students had a blast going through the school for our parade and were all smiles when we got back to the class. We finished our day by making our Charlie Brown trail mix and reading our Thanksgiving edition of My Big World.  Students helped discuss ways that we can all help in or around the kitchen during the Thanksgiving season. Tuesday November 26th We started our day by enjoying our Charlie Brown trail mix and then we joined Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki to watch Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The rest of our day was pretty relaxed and we finished with a Praise Assembly. Important reminder Our Christmas caroling is on December 5th at 11:00.  Students are to wear their Christmas best for the day.  Parking is limited and the line to get through security may be long ...

  Monday November 18th We started our day with learning about the letter Yy and practicing the letter sound.  Students also did a great job at coming up with words that start with Yy. During religion, we read a story called "A Family's Love".  This story talked about all the things we do to show that we love our family. After nap everyday, students ask Miss Paige to read out of our children's Bible while I work with students in the second room.  I was able to sneak a picture of this special moment between Miss Paige and the students. After recess, we joined with Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki for our first rehearsal of our Christmas Carols as a whole group.  The students did so well for our first group rehearsal. Tuesday November 19th We started our day by reviewing the letter Yy and adding any additional words that the students could think of.   Monday November 11th We started our morning off with an assembly to honor all of our active and retired military personnel.  The students were absolutely amazing during the assembly. When we returned to our classroom, we started our Religion class.  Today, we read the story of the finding in the temple and talked about how it felt if we have ever lost something or been lost. We finished off our day by practicing some fine motor skills.  Students practiced ripping paper to gain hand strength.  The students then glued the paper to a paper plate to create a slice of pumpkin pie for our classroom door. Tuesday November 12th We started our day by learning about the letter Ww and practiced making the letter sound.  Students worked hard to think of words that started with Ww for our word list. For religion, we reviewed our story from Monday.  We then talked a little about what we should do if we get lost when we are at places like the grocery store or churc...

  Monday November 4th We started our week with learning about the letter Uu and discussed how it can make both the short and long sound.  We also continued to review determining whether two words rhyme or not. During religion, we started talking about saints and watched a short video to remind ourselves what a saint is. We started practicing our songs for our Christmas caroling this week. At the end of the day, we read the story "Turkey Trouble" and talked about our turkey disguise projects that were being sent home with students. Tuesday November 5th We reviewed the letter Uu and continued to practice determining whether or not words rhyme. We then talked about St. Peter during religion and discussed how Peter always kept Jesus in his heart.  At the end of our day, we colored cornucopias to display on the office window.   Tuesday October 29th We started our day off with a little bit of sound detection.  Students had to help me pick out the sounds that each Halloween word started with and color in the words that started with a particular letter. During Religion, we read a story about All Saints' Day and talked about a parade of saints.  We also took the time as a class to discuss what a saint is and how they are special friends in heaven who help us to communicate with God. We finished our day off with some ice cream for snack on the playground and soaked up the nice weather. Wednesday October 30th We went back to rhyming words today during our alphabet and phonics time.  Students were given two pictures and had to determine if they were rhyming or not rhyming.  This was the first time that students worked in a more individualized way by coloring the answers on their papers before we discussed the answers in class. During Religion, we continued to discuss All Saints' Day.  ...
