Firstly, I apologize for not capturing a ton of pictures this week. As I sat down to write this weeks post, I realized that I had only take a few pictures. Monday September 23rd To start our week, we discussed the first half of the Selma slant sisters. We discussed how this week we will be making slants that start at the bottom and climb up and to the right.  We also started talking about the letter Kk. During religion, we read the story "Ming's Furry Puppy".  The story talks about the excitement from getting a new puppy but also how we have responsibilities that come along with it. During the story, Ming gets sick and is worried about who will take care of the puppy until his brother steps in to help.  This story led to a discussion about how we can help others around us. At the end of our day, students practiced some motor skills but making marble painted apple pictures, where they rolled the marble back and forth across paint and paper. Tuesday September 24th We...

Monday September 16th Today we started combining parts of our handwriting buddies together when talking about making a square.  We also started talking about the letter Ii and worked on making our word list. During Religion, we read "Jesus as the Good Shepherd" from Stories of God's Love, which is the story of the one lost sheep from the Bible.  We briefly talked about how Jesus is a good shepherd and watches over all of us as if we are his sheep.   At the end of the day, we finally finished our first book in the Magic Treehouse series and the students were so proud of themselves. Tuesday September 17th For phonics and handwriting time, we reviewed the correct way to make a square and used our magic writing fingers to practice.  We also reviewed the letter Ii and talked about the sound it makes because it can be super tricky.   For Religion, we recalled the story from Monday and students worked together to make a list of people we can trust to t...

Monday September 9th Today, we learned about a new handwriting buddy named Sammy circle.  We also learned a new game that helps us count how many words are in a sentence.  Our letter for the day was Gg and the students did a great job thinking of words for our word list. During religion, we read the story "Who is God's Favorite" and discussed the many things that make each of us unique. We got to end our day with a celebration on the big flat for the Vogelweid center, as today was the 60th anniversary.  Students enjoyed popsicles and then participated in an epic dance party led by Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki. Tuesday September 10th Today was our first early out Tuesday and the students were excited to say the least.  We started our day with some problem solving skills and worked in groups to put together floor puzzles. We continued our lesson on Sammy circle and finished up our letter Gg word list with a few more words that the students had thought of. For religio...

Tuesday September 3rd We started our day by sharing all of the fun things we did over the weekend and practiced taking turns by listening to other friends share before we shared our story.  We then combined our two previously learned handwriting buddies, Stanley stick and Lenny line, to make a plus sign and practiced how to make the new buddy by writing in the air.  We then started talking about the letter Ee and made a huge list of words that start with Ee.   During Religion, we started talking about the virtue of love.  We read the story of Jesus blessing the children and talked about how a blessing is a special prayer given to someone.   We ended our day with a fun science experiment/craft.  We filled a writing tray with shaving cream and food coloring and made marbled paper eggs to celebrate learning the letter Ee. Wednesday September 4th Today the students had a substitute for the first time.  I was home sick and missed the studen...
