Week 5- Sep. 9th-13th

 Monday September 9th

Today, we learned about a new handwriting buddy named Sammy circle.  We also learned a new game that helps us count how many words are in a sentence.  Our letter for the day was Gg and the students did a great job thinking of words for our word list.

During religion, we read the story "Who is God's Favorite" and discussed the many things that make each of us unique.

We got to end our day with a celebration on the big flat for the Vogelweid center, as today was the 60th anniversary.  Students enjoyed popsicles and then participated in an epic dance party led by Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki.

Tuesday September 10th
Today was our first early out Tuesday and the students were excited to say the least.  We started our day with some problem solving skills and worked in groups to put together floor puzzles.

We continued our lesson on Sammy circle and finished up our letter Gg word list with a few more words that the students had thought of.
For religion class, we reviewed our story from yesterday and made a "uniquely me" tree to bring to mind the special things that make us ourselves.

Wednesday September 11th
We started the day by making cards for Miss Paige, as her birthday was today.  When she arrived at school, the students were so excited to give her the cards and it definitely showed.

We used our whiteboard to practice drawing circles and learned all about the letter Hh.

We ended our day with some center time where the students worked together to create different items in their table groups.

Thursday September 12th
We continued to practice circles by using Qtips to paint around a circle and made sure to practice staying on the lines.

During Religion, we continued to discuss how we are all alike and different.  We collaborated on a piece of artwork that will be placed in our classroom.  Each student placed their fingerprint inside a heart.  We discussed how every person has a different set of fingerprints and that is another think that makes each of us special.

Friday September 13th
We started our day with our weekly PE class.  Today we talked about the importance of stretching before exercise and cooling down after exercise.  We also completed an obstacle course and had relay races on the course.

All week, I have been reading students the first book in The Magic Treehouse series.  Friday, the students were in an uproar because they were left on a huge cliffhanger.  By reading longer chapter books like this, I hope to practice a few key skills, such as story recall over an extended period, ability to sit and listen to longer texts/stories, and a desire to love reading.

*Important Announcements*
Our first mass day for preschool will be this Wednesday, September 18th.  I ask that all students arrive on time so we can meet with our 7th grade seating buddies in time for mass.  Mass starts at 8.  I also ask that parents review mass expectations with students so that they are prepared for this experience in our classroom.
