Week 2- August 18th-22nd

 Monday August 16th

We started our week by continuing our daily morning meeting.  Afterwards, we moved to learning about the letter Aa and talked about the sound and what it looks like.  We also talked this morning about our calm spot and read a story about how to calm ourselves when we have big emotions.  Students also listened to a song to remind them how to calm down using stretches and breathing.

After lunch, we talked about circles and how they have no sides and go around and round.  Students have also been working one on one with me to start our alphabet assessments to gauge where students are to start the year.

Tuesday August 19th

We continued to talk about the letter Aa and made a word list of all of the words we could think of that started with Aa.  We also reviewed our calm spot story and identified where in our classroom we can go when we experience big feelings.

After lunch, we continued to talk about circles and students practiced tracing circles using markers.

Wednesday August 20th

This morning, we practiced writing both upper and lower case Aa.  Students were most excited to use dry erase markers on the tables to put their lesson into practice.  They also used this opportunity to practice writing their names!

We also discussed what a self portrait is and discussed how it is a picture of ourself.  Students then drew their own self portraits, which are displayed in our classroom.

We finished off a hot day with a nice, cold treat with Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki's friends!

Thursday August 21st

We started the day with a fun name craft.  Our goal for the first quarter of school is to nail writing our first names.  Students used their fingers to dot their names and they had so much fun!

We then read the story "Our Class is a Family" and talked about how we should be kind to not just those within our classroom but throughout our Preschool, School Building and world in general.  We also discussed how we can be helpers, even when we are just in preschool.

Friday August 22nd

We started our morning with our first P.E. class of the year.  Students learned all about stretching to warm up our bodies for exercise.

After our stretches and warm ups, we got to play with chalk and even played a guessing game with Miss Jay!

We finished our day by reading a story called "Sick Simon" and discussed how we can handle sneezing and coughing in our class or on the playground and why it is important to wash our hands.  While listening, students got the chance to utilize our fidget noodles and practice our classroom expectations to use them in the future.

Next week's topics

Next week, we will be talking about friendship as our theme.  We will also be talking about the letter Bb and ovals.
