Week 8- September 30th-October 3rd
Tuesday September 30th
We started off our week with learning about the letter Gg. Students practiced the letter sound and identified some Gg words in our classroom (one of which was our classroom goose). Afterwards, we read a story from our Religion curriculum called "Ducks and Flowers". This story is about a little girl who goes on a picnic with her family and learns that not all animals can eat the same food as us and that she should leave the wildflowers in the park for everyone to enjoy. Students then came up with simple ways in which we could take care of God's creations, even when we are this little.
We then moved on to talking about pentagons and how they are a shape with 5 sides. Students watched a video to show them some 5 sided things we can find in the world.
To finish our day, we enjoyed some center time while I worked one-on-one with students.
Wednesday October 1st
We started our day by making a word list of things that started with the /g/ sound. Students then thought of the word "giraffe" from Captain Sea Salt and had a discussion about how sometimes Gg makes the j sound.
After letter time, students cut and assembled paper raccoons. We worked on slowing down and staying on the dotted line with our scissors and practiced. Students also used critical thinking skills to glue the pieces together while looking at a completed example on the board. These amazing (and creative) interpretations of this art project are displayed on our classroom "fridge" in the front classroom.
After nap, students worked on identifying the letter Gg when missed with other letters. To finish our day, we celebrated Tate's birthday with the Birthday Boogie and some donuts!
Thursday October 2nd
We started today by writing the letter Gg. Students practiced writing by remember an uppercase G is like a C with a little line in and a lowercase g is like a c with a fish hook down. Students did an amazing job of practicing on the smartboard!
We then worked on figuring out which picture is taller and how we can measure different objects.
We finished our day with a popsicle party with Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki.
Friday October 3rd
We started off the day with a change in plans. Because of Donuts with Dads, we were unable to use the gym. Instead, we went for a short walk around the outside of the school. After our walk, we had extra recess to get in our movement!
We then read a story about dinosaurs who were camping and talked about how to clean up after ourselves during camping or a picnic.
To finish the day, we celebrated Braden's birthday with donuts and the Birthday Boogie!
Next week's topics
Next week, we will be talking all about Fire Safety as our theme. We will also be talking about the letter Hh and hearts.
