Week 4- September 2nd-5th
Tuesday September 2nd
We started our week by talking about the letter Cc and practiced how to make the /k/ Cc sound. Students started a list to show off all of the Cc words we could find. We then read the Bible story about the Good Samaritan and how we choose to be kind everyday. Students discussed how the other men who passed by may have been in a hurry to get somewhere and that's why they didn't stop, so we talked about how there are others ways we can help those who are in need.
After lunch, we talked about triangles and how they have three sides and three points. During center time, students played with friends while some worked on writing our names.
Wednesday September 3rd
Today we continued to talk about the letter Cc and came up with even more words for our word list. Afterwards, we read the story "Whose Hands are These" by Miranda Paul and discussed all of the different jobs people have and all of the jobs that we one day hope to do (which was a lot of teachers apparently).
During recess, students showed off their gymnastic skills while also selling ice cream out of the ice cream truck.
We continued talking about triangles after the first parent lunch of the year by tracing the shape with markers. Students also worked to identify letter Cc on their papers. To finish our day, we continued to work on writing our names.
Thursday September 4th
Today we practiced writing the letter Cc on the smartboard with our magic color pen. Students took turns and even complimented the other students while waiting. Afterwards, we read the story "Officer Buckle and Gloria", about a police dog who helped give safety presentations with a great twist. Students then named other animals that we sometimes see as community helpers like therapy dogs and farm animals, because not all helpers are human.
Students practiced writing triangles today and talked about how triangles could look different, as long as they have three sides.
Friday September 5th
We started the day with P.E. Students got to race through an obstacle course, play a round of duck, duck, goose, and a game of follow the leader where they were trying to catch Miss Jay's class.
We went through our morning meeting and students sang the days of the week and worked out to the alphabet. At the end of the day, students enjoyed some ice cream with sprinkles from the cafeteria and Miss Jay's stash of sprinkles. Students then finished the day by getting to watch an episode of "Spidey and His Amazing Friends" as a reward for behaving on Thursday when I left early for a meeting.
Next week's topics
Next week, we will be talking all about apples as our theme. We will also be talking about the letter Dd and squares.
