Week 18 December 9th-13th

 Monday December 9th

We started our day with letter time and practiced finding the beginning sounds of the words in a sentence.  We also talked about how to write an upper and lowercase Ss and when you would need to use the uppercase letter.

During Religion, we read through our nativity book and discussed the order of the story.

We finished our day by working on some fine motor skills and made torn paper Christmas lights to display in our classroom.

Tuesday December 10th

We started the day by looking for our Jesus doll who holds a secret puzzle piece everyday and the students were looking high and low.

We continued to review the letter Ss and practiced finding the beginning sounds again.

During Religion, we colored our Nativity books that we had read the day before and continued to practice recalling story details.

Wednesday December 11th

Today we started by practicing how to make an uppercase T and reviewed the sound that Tt makes.

During Religion, we practiced putting the events from our Nativity book back into order after we had mixed them all up.

During our morning recess, the students were so excited because it was warm enough for us to go outside while it was snowing!  Students got to enjoy running and playing in the snow.

Thursday December 12th

We continued to work on the letter Tt and practiced writing lowercase t by writing on the tables with dry erase markers (which is our new favorite way to practice).

We reviewed our Nativity book and watched the Veggie Tales rendition so students had more of a visual.

After nap, Mrs. Brauner and her 7th grade students invited our class to listen to them read Christmas stories.  Each big kid was paired with a little kid and they read stories together and got to have small conversations.

This was the perfect opportunity for our class to connect with our big buddies while giving our big buddies a chance to practice their story telling skills!

Friday December 13th

We started off our day by getting to watch the St. Lucy's Day parade in the big school.  While waiting in the hallway for the parade to start, we serenaded the students in the big school by singing Christmas carols.

After the parade, we joined the other two preschool classes to watch "The Star" and enjoy some popcorn.

We finished our day by reading My Big World by Scholastic.  This edition was all about mailing holiday cards and we discussed all the parts that make up our address.  Students also learned about the process of sorting and delivering mail.

I want to thank each and every child and parent for making my first year of teaching such a success in this first half.  These students always manage to impress me with their talents and wealth of knowledge.  I appreciate all of the support you have given me throughout this first half of the year as I am trying to figure out how to run things in the classroom.

Please remember to turn in your student's $5 gift wrapped with their name on it and any donations for the party by Monday, December 16th so I have time to set items up over the course of the following days.

Wednesday, December 18th is our Christmas party as well as a 1:30 dismissal.  All students must be picked up by 1:40.  Also remember that it is a PJ day for my class as we are going to watch the Polar Express instead of napping!
