Week 17 December 2nd -6th
Monday December 2nd
We have officially started talking about letter formation and how to write each letter. Today we started by practicing making an uppercase M and reviewed what sound m makes.
During religion, we watched a video to help explain the season of Advent. Students learned that we light one candle each week as we are preparing our hearts for the coming of Jesus.
Tuesday December 3rd
We continued on writing the letter Mm but introduced the process for writing the lowercase version. After practicing with magic writing fingers, students got to practice writing both upper and lowercase M on the tables using dry erase markers and they loved it! They also learned how to write their first word other than their names. We practiced writing and sounding out "mom".
For Religion class, we read the story of the angel Gabriel telling Mary the good news. we then discussed how Mary was an ordinary woman who God picked to be special because she opened her heart to Him.
We finished our day with one of our last caroling practice.
Wednesday December 4th
We reviewed how to make an Mm and then switched towards writing an uppercase A, as well as reviewing the sound it makes.
During religion, we read and colored our advent mini book, which discussed what the 4 candles represent and what the season of Advent helps us remember.
We finished our day by coloring ornaments to hang on one of our classroom doors.
Thursday December 5th
We continued working on writing Aa and practiced making a lowercase a. We also learned how to write the word "am" and discussed how it is used in sentences.
During Religion, we watched a video talking about St. Nicholas. Students talked about all of the gifts they had received in past years from St. Nick and it was a lot of fun.
Next stop: Christmas Caroling!
Students were buzzing as we entered the Capital and were very excited and nervous.
I am so proud of how well these students performed. It takes a lot of bravery to get up on stage in front of that many people. The youtube link posted is only visible to people with the link so your child has not been posted for the world to see, it is just the easiest way to share the video with you to enjoy.
Sadly it was hard to get a group photo with the whole class due to some bad lighting inside the Capitol.
We celebrated our bravery and great performance with a movie party and watched "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas"
Friday December 6th
St. Nick left candy canes on the desk of all the students and they were so surprised when they arrived at school. We started our day with our weekly P.E class, where we started our new game. "Clean Your Room" is just like dodgeball except you throwing the balls into the other half of the gym, not at other people. The goal of the game is to have less balls in your "room" when the whistle blows.
We then found another gift from St. Nick when we returned from P.E. We were left a Finding Jesus Advent puzzle to use in our classroom. Twice a day, students will search the classroom for a Jesus doll that has been hidden in our room. Inside the doll, is a puzzle piece which corresponds to a bible reading. This is a fun way to learn about the story of advent and keep a spark in our learning.
We finished our day by coloring and cutting out stockings to hang in our classroom for the remainder of the Christmas holiday.
