Week 8- Oct. 1st-4th
Tuesday October 1st
Today, we continued to practice our slants but introduced a sliding slant. We started at the top and slid to the bottom right. We also started talking about the letter Mm and made a list with all sorts of words.
During Religion, we read the story "God Made All Things Good" out of Stories of God's Love, which is based off of the creation story. Afterwards, we discussed what God created in the beginning and how He created everything out of goodness.
At the end of the day, we created pumpkin artwork by gluing strips of paper to a large piece of paper and placing a pumpkin overlay. These are displayed inside the classroom.
Wednesday October 2nd
We continued to work on our slants during handwriting and phonics time. We also started discussing rhyming words and what makes them rhyme. Students were told two words that rhyme and had to work together to tell me what the ending sound was that rhymed.
During Religion, we talked about how God wants us to treat all of His creations and how its important for us to take care of those creations through recycling, feeding animals the correct food, and picking up trash. We also discussed how the 5 senses can help keep us safe from some of God's creations.
We finished off our day by joining Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki's classes for cookies on the playground and an extra recess!
We also watched a video on the process of how a pumpkin grows to prepare for Friday's field trip.
Thursday October 3rd
We practiced writing our sliding slants on the whiteboard today and the class did amazing! We also discussed the letter Nn and how it looks and sounds different from Mm, as they are commonly mixed up.
During Religion, I read the students Matthew 7:12, which is the golden rule. We talked about how we should treat everyone with kindness and love so that they treat us the same way. We also talked about how sometimes people are not always nice and kind back and how we can handle that within the classroom setting.
We finished our day off with a pie tasting and vote. Students who wished to participate were given a piece of apple and a piece of pumpkin pies. They tried both pies and then took a vote to see which pie was better. 6 students voted for apple and 7 students voted for pumpkin. We talked about which answer was more and how many more votes would be needed for apple to win. Students then requested that in the future, Miss Harley makes cakes for them to try because "pie is yucky".
Friday October 4th
Field trip day!!
We started with P.E. class in the gym. Students got to play a new game where they practiced how to do an underhand toss using bean bags. The goal was to get all of the bean bags into the circle in the middle of the gym.
After P.E. students go to color a picture of a pumpkin that was sent to us from Fischer Farms! We followed that up with an early recess and lunch in our classroom!
The bus ride to the pumpkin patch was a lot of students first bus ride and the excitement was through the roof.
We arrived at the pumpkin patch and I was amazed by how well the students listened to instructions when getting off the bus. It was definitely hard for them to see all the parents but having to stay in line until we were done with pictures.
Students then got to go off and play in the sand pit and corn pit, pet the animals in the petting zoo, and ride on the zipline. After a little bit of play, parents and students got to take a hayride into the field and pick their own pumpkins to take home!
