Week 11 Oct. 21st-24th
Monday October 21st
Today we started with reviewing previously learned handwriting buddies as we have officially covered our basic handwriting strokes! We also started learning about the letter Ss and came up with a list of words that all started with Ss. Students also got an extra tidbit of knowledge by realizing that words that start with sh make the "shh" sound.
During religion class, we read the story "Only One Cookie". The story talks about a family dinner and at the very end, only one cookie is left for dessert. Adam, the main character, chooses to share the cookie with his sister instead of eating the whole cookie by himself.
Tuesday October 22nd
We continued to review previously learned handwriting buddies, focusing mainly on a straight up and down stick. We also practiced telling which words rhyme and don't rhyme. We finished up talking about our Ss words for our list.
During Religion, we recalled our story details by playing the true/false game. We also discussed some things that we can share at school, as well as things we probably shouldn't share at school.
After recess, we joined the other two preschool classes in the alleyway for popsicles since the weather was so nice.
Wednesday October 23rd
In letter time, we reviewed how to make a plus sign for our alphabet practice after nap. We also started talking about the letter Tt and made a word list.
For Religion, we played a bean bag game. We started by recalling our story. After that, we passed the beanbag around in a circle, with each student telling us something that they can share with the class. We also discussed how we can share more than just tangible objects like smiles, hugs, and words of encouragement.
At the end of the day, we assembled our handprint witches that are on display with Miss Jay and Mrs. Nikki's classes art work inside the big school.
Thursday October 24th
We continued today with a review of the letter Tt and finished up our word list. We also continued to talk about rhyming words and determined if two words rhymed or not.
During religion class, we discussed what a virtue is and how it is a good thing that we do over and over. We discussed the three virtues that we have covered this far, friendship, love, and kindness. We then put together a chain with all of the skills that we have learned under each virtue. The chain is displayed near our prayer table in our classroom and will be added to each week.
Today was also an exciting day for students. Throughout class, they have been working to earn pompoms in a jar to work towards a movie day. This means that instead of napping, students get to watch a movie. They earned their prize a few weeks ago and got to watch the movie "Coco" today during nap time. The students are currently working toward a cake tasting for their next prize and are working really hard.
We WILL be attending mass on Friday, November 1st for the Holy day. Please have students at school by 7:45 so we may go to the bathroom and meet 7th grade for mass.
Our Halloween party is Thursday October 31st. Please bring in all donations by October 29th so we can prepare them for the party. Thank you to all of those who signed up.
