Week 10- Oct. 14th-18th

 Monday October 14th

Today we started with by learning how to combine lines and slants to make a triangle.  We also continued to say rhyming words and pick out the ending sound or the "rhyme".  We then moved on to learning the letter Qq and made our word list. Students even received a compliment from Mr. Veit about how well they could identify the rhyme in a word.

During religion, we read "God's Promise" from Stories of God's Love, which is the story of Noah's ark.  We practiced our recall skills and discussed how the rainbow is a sign of God's promise to love and care for everyone and everything.

At the end of the day, students worked on making blown paint ghosts.  A drop of paint was put on the paper and students used straws and their breath to blow the paint around on the paper.

Tuesday October 15th

We continued on our rhyming words today.  We also reviewed the letter Qq and the sound that it makes.

For religion class, we created our very own rainbows using paper squares and glue to help remind us daily of God's promise to us.

Wednesday October 16th

During letter time, we practiced drawing triangles on the whiteboard, remembering to start at the top and slide down, then making a line across and climbing back to the top.

We also started discussing the letter Rr and the sound that it makes.  Students had a ton of words to put on our word list and almost filled up the board on the first day.

During religion, we watched the Veggie Tale "Noah's Ark" to help us visualize the story.

At the end of the day, students created a coffee filter flame using markers and water to wrap up our fire safety week.

Thursday October 17th
We continued to learn about triangles and the letter Rr and students filled the rest of the board with Rr words.
During religion, we played a true/false game to practice remembering the story for the week.
We finished our day with a play preview of the Little Mermaid, put on by the jr. high students.

Friday October 18th
Fun Friday was a bit different.  Due to the play being put on in Selinger, we were not able to have PE.  We instead watched the Little Mermaid with Miss Jay and Nikki's class.

I also got the cutest video of the students dancing during our movement time.  The kids have some of the best singing voices and memories.

Please return report card folders and Parent/Teacher Conference forms ASAP.
Book orders are due on the Scholastic website by October 22nd so I have time to submit the order.
Please make sure your child has a jacket daily as morning recess can be cold in the next few months.
