Week 3- Aug 26th-30th
Firstly, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every student over the past three weeks! I see so many flourishing personalities and it is truly amazing!
Here are just a few reminders to some important dates for the next month that will affect pick up or students being at school. We will be out of school both September 2nd and September 30th. We will be having our first 1:30 dismissal on September 10th. All students must be picked up at dismissal time as there is no after care on these days.
Monday August 26th
Today we introduced the letter Cc and made a list of words that all started with that letter. Students even caught on that words like chicken and chocolate also started with a "c" and were very excited. We also read "Be My Friend" from Stories of God's Love. This story was about a new friend coming into the classroom and talked about how we could help friends who may be scared during our school day. Students used their excellent recall skills to tell me about what had happened in the story.
Today, I also started testing students on letter identification and letter sounds. While doing this, students got to play with playdough and got a chance to explore all the fun playdough tools that we have in the classroom.
Tuesday August 27th
Today we continued to talk about the letter Cc. We also introduced Lenny Line, which is a straight line from left to right, and practiced a few exercises that helped us cross the midline of our bodies. During Religion time, we recalled the story from Monday and worked to make self portraits that we could put them on our friends wall. These portraits, which will later have the students photo next to them, are to help students if they are looking to write a letter or message to another student and don't know how to spell each others names.
Students also worked on coloring their letter Cc books and had more playdough fun!
Wednesday August 28th
Today we introduced the letter Dd and created a word list with all of the words that we could think of. We also practiced what to do during a tornado so we were prepared for the drill on Thursday. At the end of the day, students practiced their scissor skills and cut out hats for our handprint firemen. The students worked super hard on their firemen and made sure to maintain safety when using the scissors.
