Week 2- Aug 19th-23rd
Monday August 19th
Monday we started talking about all of our curriculum work. We introduced Larry the letter lion to help us reviewing and introducing our handwriting buddies. We talked all about Stanley stick and how he starts at the top and goes straight down to the bottom. We also talked about the letter A and made a list of words that all start with the a sound.
During religion class, we talked about the Bible and what it is made up of. We then talked about Jesus and who he is and what his mission on Earth was (spreading God's love). The students met our classroom stuffed Jesus and got to see where to find him in our classroom.
After recess, we had a popsicle party to celebrate a friend in Miss Nikki's class who had a birthday, as well as his sister in our class. We then started in on our emotion lesson by reading "A Little Scribble Spot" and talking about what colors match each emotion. We then finished our day with our music and movement section and did a preschool brain break.Tuesday August 20th
We continued today with review our Stanley stick poem and adding to our list of a words that we could think of, as well as nontraditional words like August. For religion, we read "Come Follow Me", which is a based on Jesus meeting Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Students then also practiced recalling the story and giving me details from the story after reading.
Our emotions lesson was full of fun times. We sorted the different feelings into 7 different emotions and discussed how sometimes certain emotions could feel like colors. At the end of the lesson, students asked to take a silly picture with our silly card!
Wednesday August 21st
Today we introduced the letter B and discussed what sounds it makes as well as what words started with the letter. During religion, we talked about how we thought the fishermen felt that Jesus picked them to help spread God's love to the rest of the world and how we could help spread God's love.
During our emotions and feelings time, we read "A Little Spot of Feelings: Emotion Detective" and practiced using our new skills to figure out what emotion Miss Harley was "feeling". We finished with an Inside Out themed PE run to get in a little movement.
Thursday August 22nd
For our letter practice today, we played a game of "Thumbs up, Thumbs down" and had to decide if the letter on the screen was a B or not and then had to say if it was upper or lowercase. During religion, we reviewed our story and made an anchor chart talking all about how we can be good friends to those around us.
At the end of the day, we started a set of stories called "Harold's Purple Crayon" and I don't think the students wanted me to stop reading when it was time for music and movement.
Friday August 23rd
Today was our first PE Friday of the year! Before PE class, we practiced where we need to go for a fire as we have been talking about a fire drill all week for the students to be prepared when the time comes. The students listened carefully as we went through all of the stretches to help our bodies warm up for an intense game of "Duck, Duck, Goose". We enjoyed some popsicles at the end of PE to reward the students for being so patient during the game. After PE, we watched an animated video to help us better visualize the story from our religion class this week. We also did a letter sort with A's and B's to make sure we felt comfortable with our letters of the week.
