Where do i even begin? I want to thank all of the parents for helping your child be successful in this first "week" of school! I am so proud of all of my students for how quickly they have adapted to this next adventure! I will post on our classroom website once a week (I will try to have the weekly post up by Saturday evenings). I will also try to do a better job of taking pictures during activities so that you as parents can have a better look into our classroom.
Wednesday August 14th
The students were filled with both excitement and nervousness so our first day was much more relaxed. The main goal for the day was for the students to get a feel for the classroom, as well as getting to know their fellow classmates and making new friends. We successfully made it through our first ever morning meeting where we discuss the days of the week, month, weather, and do a morning prayer. The whole class was attentive and participated! A huge portion of our morning was taken up by center time so that we could get to know each other and get a feel for a few different areas within the classroom. Sadly we had to have recess in the gym but I don't think the kids mind.
We read the stories "First Day Jitters" and "A Letter from Your Teacher: On the First Day of School" before nap time. After nap and recess, we had "jitter juice" with our snack and followed that with a little dance party.
Thursday August 15th
The second day went much better! The students were less nervous and were so much more excited! During morning meeting, we discussed what to do if there is a fire and the students knew most of the answers right away! Make sure to talk at home with your students about fire safety since we brought it up in class! We got to play outside for recess and the students were having so much fun. After recess, they got to lead the preschool classes into lunch as they were asked to model how to walk in a line for the younger students. How amazing that on day 2 they already know how to walk in an amazing line?
We listened to "Curious George Goes to School" on a website called Vooks, which animates classic children's stories and the students were rather interested and even asked for a second story.
Friday August 16th (Fun Friday)
Sadly this week we were not able to have PE class but we hope to start next Friday with that so please make sure students have on shoes that are easy to run and jump in. We started our day with "Shake Your Sillies Out" by the Learning Station on Youtube to start the morning with some fun. We spent some time in our classroom library looking at all sorts of books. For snack, we had pudding to celebrate a successful first week of school. We ended our day by first listening to "Arnie the Doughnut" and "Clark the Shark" on Storytime Online, which is a website where celebrity actors read stories, and then had an epic dance party to finish out the first week.
*Once again, thank you to all the parents. This year would not be possible without you support and assistance. Stay tuned next week for more PreK fun!
