Week 5- September 8th-12th

  Monday September 8th We started off our week by talking about the letter Dd and identified words that start with Dd.  We then read the Scholastic's My Big World magazine about apples, where students heard a description of a fruit and had to decide if it was an apple or not.   After recess and lunch, we talked all about squares and how they have 4 points and 4 equal sides.  During center time, some students worked in a small group to work on their letter writing assessments. Tuesday September 9th Today we celebrated Karley's birthday with our famous Birthday Boogie! We also continued to talk about the letter Dd and made a huge list of words.  Students then expanded on what we learned in our magazine on Monday and completed an apple themed worksheet. One of our goals by the end of the school year is to eliminate nap time completely from our schedule.  In order to do this, we start by eliminating nap on early dismissal days and instead watch a movie....

Week 4- September 2nd-5th

  Tuesday September 2nd We started our week by talking about the letter Cc and practiced how to make the /k/ Cc sound.  Students started a list to show off all of the Cc words we could find.  We then read the Bible story about the Good Samaritan and how we choose to be kind everyday.  Students discussed how the other men who passed by may have been in a hurry to get somewhere and that's why they didn't stop, so we talked about how there are others ways we can help those who are in need.   After lunch, we talked about triangles and how they have three sides and three points.  During center time, students played with friends while some worked on writing our names. Wednesday September 3rd Today we continued to talk about the letter Cc and came up with even more words for our word list.  Afterwards, we read the story "Whose Hands are These" by Miranda Paul and discussed all of the different jobs people have and all of the jobs that we one day hop...

Week 3- August 25th-29th

  Monday August 25th Today we started talking about the letter Bb.  Students worked to find the letter Bb in songs and think of words that started with the letter Bb.  We then read a story from our religion curriculum about Jesus and his special friends, the Apostles, who were fishermen who chose to follow Jesus.  We talked about ovals and how they are squashed circles or "flat tires" as the kids said.  We finished our day with centers while students showed off their name writing skills. Tuesday August 26th We continued to talk about the letter Bb today and made a giant list of words on our smartboard.  Students also worked to complete a paper where they identified the letter Bb.  During religion, we read about Nina and how she greeted a new student at her school and became friends with them as we welcomed a new friend into our classroom.  We also practiced tracing ovals and writing our names.  During recess, the students participated in an a...

Week 2- August 18th-22nd

  Monday August 16th We started our week by continuing our daily morning meeting.  Afterwards, we moved to learning about the letter Aa and talked about the sound and what it looks like.  We also talked this morning about our calm spot and read a story about how to calm ourselves when we have big emotions.  Students also listened to a song to remind them how to calm down using stretches and breathing. After lunch, we talked about circles and how they have no sides and go around and round.  Students have also been working one on one with me to start our alphabet assessments to gauge where students are to start the year. Tuesday August 19th We continued to talk about the letter Aa and made a word list of all of the words we could think of that started with Aa.  We also reviewed our calm spot story and identified where in our classroom we can go when we experience big feelings.   After lunch, we continued to talk about circles and students practiced ...
