Week 14 November 11th-15th

  Monday November 11th We started our morning off with an assembly to honor all of our active and retired military personnel.  The students were absolutely amazing during the assembly. When we returned to our classroom, we started our Religion class.  Today, we read the story of the finding in the temple and talked about how it felt if we have ever lost something or been lost. We finished off our day by practicing some fine motor skills.  Students practiced ripping paper to gain hand strength.  The students then glued the paper to a paper plate to create a slice of pumpkin pie for our classroom door. Tuesday November 12th We started our day by learning about the letter Ww and practiced making the letter sound.  Students worked hard to think of words that started with Ww for our word list. For religion, we reviewed our story from Monday.  We then talked a little about what we should do if we get lost when we are at places like the grocery store or church. Week 13 November 4th-8th

  Monday November 4th We started our week with learning about the letter Uu and discussed how it can make both the short and long sound.  We also continued to review determining whether two words rhyme or not. During religion, we started talking about saints and watched a short video to remind ourselves what a saint is. We started practicing our songs for our Christmas caroling this week. At the end of the day, we read the story "Turkey Trouble" and talked about our turkey disguise projects that were being sent home with students. Tuesday November 5th We reviewed the letter Uu and continued to practice determining whether or not words rhyme. We then talked about St. Peter during religion and discussed how Peter always kept Jesus in his heart.  At the end of our day, we colored cornucopias to display on the office window. Week 12 Oct. 29th-Nov. 1st

  Tuesday October 29th We started our day off with a little bit of sound detection.  Students had to help me pick out the sounds that each Halloween word started with and color in the words that started with a particular letter. During Religion, we read a story about All Saints' Day and talked about a parade of saints.  We also took the time as a class to discuss what a saint is and how they are special friends in heaven who help us to communicate with God. We finished our day off with some ice cream for snack on the playground and soaked up the nice weather. Wednesday October 30th We went back to rhyming words today during our alphabet and phonics time.  Students were given two pictures and had to determine if they were rhyming or not rhyming.  This was the first time that students worked in a more individualized way by coloring the answers on their papers before we discussed the answers in class. Week 11 Oct. 21st-24th

  Monday October 21st Today we started with reviewing previously learned handwriting buddies as we have officially covered our basic handwriting strokes!  We also started learning about the letter Ss and came up with a list of words that all started with Ss.  Students also got an extra tidbit of knowledge by realizing that words that start with sh make the "shh" sound. During religion class, we read the story "Only One Cookie".  The story talks about a family dinner and at the very end, only one cookie is left for dessert.  Adam, the main character, chooses to share the cookie with his sister instead of eating the whole cookie by himself. Tuesday October 22nd We continued to review previously learned handwriting buddies, focusing mainly on a straight up and down stick.  We also practiced telling which words rhyme and don't rhyme. We finished up talking about our Ss words for our list. During Religion, we recalled our story details by playing the true/false game.

Week 10- Oct. 14th-18th

  Monday October 14th Today we started with by learning how to combine lines and slants to make a triangle.  We also continued to say rhyming words and pick out the ending sound or the "rhyme".  We then moved on to learning the letter Qq and made our word list. Students even received a compliment from Mr. Veit about how well they could identify the rhyme in a word. During religion, we read "God's Promise" from Stories of God's Love, which is the story of Noah's ark.  We practiced our recall skills and discussed how the rainbow is a sign of God's promise to love and care for everyone and everything. At the end of the day, students worked on making blown paint ghosts.  A drop of paint was put on the paper and students used straws and their breath to blow the paint around on the paper. Week 9- Oct. 7th-11th

  Monday October 7th For phonics and handwriting, we reviewed how to make a slant and how to put the two together to make an X. We also started talking about the letter Oo and what sound it makes.   During Religion, we read "Ducks and Flowers" from Stories of God's Love.  This story is about a little girl who is visiting the park with her parents.  She tries to take care of nature but finds that some things we think are helpful are actually harmful.  We also talked about why those things could be harmful even though they seem super helpful. Tuesday October 8th During phonics and handwriting, we reviewed how to make an X and used paint dabbers to trace the shape on paper.  We also continued to work on the letter Oo. For religion class, we discussed ways to take care of God's creations and how we can take care of ourselves, as God's special creation.  Wednesday October 9th We practiced making X on the whiteboard. We also started discuss the letter Pp and its sound.
